Packers Numbers Crunches-Game Three vs. Detroit
Here are some of the numbers that helped define the Packers 34-27 win over the Detroit Lions on September 25.
- Davante Adams scored the first TD of the game on a pass from Aaron Rodgers. The Packers are now 5-0 in games where Adams scores a TD.
- Green Bay has now won their home opener in nine of the last 10 years. The last loss was in 2012 to the San Francisco 49ers.
- The Pack scored 14 points in the first quarter and has now won 20 straight when they tally 14 or more points in the first quarter. They are 32-4 since 2000.
- Jordy Nelson had a 49-yard reception in the game. Since his rookie season in 2008, Nelson has had 25 plays of 40 or more yards, most on the team in that timespan.
- Nelson scored a TD for the third consecutive game for the third time in his career. It was the first time that he started the season by scoring a TD in three straight games.
- Rodgers had four TD passes for the 18th time (regular season and playoffs) in his career. The Packers are 16-2 in those games.
- Rodgers had four TDs on a 15-for-24 passing performance for 205 yards. It was the second fewest completions he’s had in a four-TD pass game, the fewest attempts and the fewest yards.
- Green Bay was ahead 31-10 at halftime. They are now 17-0 since 1970 when they score 30 or more points in the first half.
- Their 20-point lead at half makes them 40-0 since 1970 in games where they have a 20-point (or bigger) lead at halftime.
- The Packers had a 17-point lead going into the fourth quarter (34-17) and have now won 17 straight in games when they have that big a lead going into the last quarter.
- Running back Eddie Lacy had 103 yards on 17 carries in the game. Green Bay is now 9-2-1 (regular season and playoffs) when Lacy reaches the 100-yard mark in a contest.
- Lions’ receiver Marvin Jones, Jr., had six catches for 205 yards. He is the fifth player since 2012 to tally over 200 yards receiving in a game versus the Packers. The others were: 2012: Reggie Wayne and Calvin Johnson; 2013: Anquan Boldin; 2014: Julio Jones.
- The Lions scored 24 points in the second half. Green Bay is now 6-20 in games when their opponents score 24 or more points in the second half.
- Since 2000, the Packers opponents have scored in each of the four quarters in a game 59 times. The Packers are 19-39-1 in those games, although they have won four of the last six.
- Green Bay had less than 25 minutes Time of Possession (TOP) in the game. Since 2000, the Packers are now 7-18 when they have fewer than 25 minutes TOP in a contest.
- The Packers “D” allowed over 400 yards in the game. The team is 31-25-1 since 2000 when they allow the opposition 400 or more total yards in a game.

Here are some of the numbers that helped define the Packers 17-14 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on September 18.
- This is the first season in the history of the Packers that they played their first two games of the season on the road. They went 1-1. Of the 53 teams that played their first two games of a season (since 2000) on the road, only seven went 2-0. The last team to go 2-0 starting on the road was the Miami Dolphins in 2013.
- The Vikings have defeated the Packers 12 times since 2000. Yesterday’s loss was the second in September. Three of those losses came in October, four in November, one in December, and two in January.
- Green Bay scored a touchdown in the first quarter (an Aaron Rodgers to Jordy Nelson pass). The team is now 52-19-1 (.729 winning percentage) since 2010 when they score in the first quarter, but they have won only three of their last eight when they score in the first quarter.
- Jordy has scored two TDs this season, one on a six-yard pass and the other on a one-yard. While you would assume that Jordy is the Pack’s big long ball threat, 17 of his 52 career TDs have been on pass plays under 10 yards.
- The Packers had a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. They had won seven straight when they had a lead of seven points or more at the end of the first quarter.
- Green Bay was behind 10-7 at halftime. They are now 8-16-1 in games since 2012 when they are trailing at halftime, and have won only four of their last 15 games on the road when they trail at half.
- Dom Capers “D” had four sacks in the game, which is normally a good sign. The Pack is now 18-6-1 since 2010 when they get four or more sacks in a contest.
- Vikings receiver Stefon Diggs continued an unfortunate pattern for the Packers secondary. Diggs had nine catches for 182 yards in the game. It was the sixth straight season that the Packers allowed an opposing receiver to gain 150 or more yards in a game. He is the 17th receiver since 2000 to have 150 or more yards receiving versus the Packers; the Pack is 8-9 in those games.
- Green Bay entered the fourth quarter with a 10-point deficit (they were behind 17-7). Since 2000, Green Bay is now 2-40-1 when they trail by 10 or more points going into the final quarter. They have now lost eight straight in that scenario.
- Aaron Rodgers was sacked five times. Since 2000, the Packers are 4-19 when they allow the QB to be sacked five or more times, and have lost 10 of their last 11. The team is 6-8 since 2014 in games when the QB is sacked three or more times in a game.
- Rodgers had a rushing TD in back-to-back games for the third time in his career. The 10-yard TD run against the Vikes gives him eight TD runs of 10 yards or more (of the 23 rushing TDs he has scored).
- The Pack had three turnovers in the game. Since 2000, they are now 13-41 (.241 winning percentage) in games when they commit three or more turnovers. They are 3-10 in those games since 2008.
- Rodgers’ Quarterback Rating (QBR) was 70.1 for the game. When his QBR is under 75, the Packers are 3-11 in games he has started.
- Green Bay scored only 14 points in the game. They are now 5-36 since 2000 in games when they score under 15 points, and are 1-26 since 2000 when they score under 15 points in a game on the road.
- Holding their opponent under 20 points had been a good sign for the Pack. Since the 2011 season, the Packers are 25-6 when they keep their opponents under 20 points in a game. They had won 10 of their last 12 games when the opposition scored under 20 in a contest.

Here are some of the numbers that helped define the Packers 27-23 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 11.
- The win over Jacksonville now gives the Pack a 7-7 record in games in Florida since 2000. They are now 30-34 (.469 winning percentage) in games in the Eastern time zone since 2000.
- Aaron Rodgers scored the 22nd rushing TD of his career. The Pack is 12-9 in games when Rodgers has one (or more) rushing TD. In games where he has two or more passing TD’s and one or more rushing TD in the same game, the team is 7-3.
- Green Bay scored first in the road game and has now won five straight and nine of their last 11 when they score first as the road team.
- Clay Matthews had a sack in the contest. The Packers are 36-14-1 when Matthews gets a sack in the game.
- Jordy Nelson got his first TD reception since December 14, 2014. The importance of Nelson to the Packers offense is certainly revealed in this stat: the Pack is 32-6 in games when Nelson has a TD reception… even better yet, they team has now won 16 straight in games where Nelson catches a TD pass.
- Green Bay had a 21-17 lead at halftime. The team is 17-3 in their last 20 games when they score 20 or more points by halftime as the road team.
- Rodgers two TD passes was the 80th time in his career that he had two or more TD passes in a game. Green Bay is 64-16 in those games (.800 winning percentage).
- The Pack has now won 11 straight when they have the lead going into the fourth quarter on the road. Since 2000, the team is 61-15 (.802 winning percentage) when they have the lead going into the fourth quarter as the road team.
- Running back Eddie Lacy ran the ball 14 times for 61 yards. Green Bay is 20-6-1 in games when Lacy gains 60 or more yards rushing in a game, and they are 19-7-1 when Lacy gets 14 or more rushing attempts in a contest.

90 wins in back-to-back seasons
The Chicago Cubs last night got their 90th win of the season, becoming the first team to reach that number in 2016. For the Cubs, it was also the first time the franchise has won 90 games in back-to-back seasons since 1930.
Three franchises, Colorado, Miami and San Diego, have never won 90 games in back-to-back seasons. Of the other 27 MLB teams, it looks like the Kansas City Royals will now replace the Cubs as the franchise with the longest drought to having 90-win seasons in consecutive years. The Royals have not won 90 in back-to-back years since 1978 (Note: There is a slim chance the Royals will erase that this year… more on that in a minute).

Seven teams last year won 90 or more games: the Cubs, Royals, Dodgers, Mets, Pirates, Cardinals and Blue Jays. As noted above, the Cubs have already reached 90 wins this season for a back-to-back 90-win campaign. Of the other six teams, it doesn’t look like all will repeat this season. Pittsburgh will have to g0 21-1 to reach 90 wins this year… Kansas City will have to go 18-4… St. Louis will need to go 16-6… the New York Mets will have to go 15-6… Toronto will have to go 13-9… and the los Angeles Dodgers will have to go 11-11 to reach 90 wins.
Packers’ season openers on the road: 10 stats you may not know
The Green Bay Packers begin the 2016 NFL season next Sunday as the road team in a game versus the Jacksonville Jaguars. This is the 15th time since 1970 that the Pack will start the season on the road. Here are 10 stats you may not know about the previous 14 times the Pack started the NFL season on the road.
- This is the fourth consecutive year that the Packers have started the season on the road. Last year they defeated the Bears 31-23 in Chicago.
- The team is 9-5 in season-opening games on the road since 1970, the year of the AFL-NFL merger.
- The Packers have started the season three times in Chicago against the Bears since 1970.
- The worst season-opening defeat on the road was a 20-point loss Green Bay suffered to Seattle in 2014.
- There was one overtime game in the 14 season-openers on the road… the Packers beat the Houston Oilers 41-38 in 1983.
- The biggest margin of victory in a season-opener on the road was a 31-point win in 1996 over the Tampa Bay Bucs.
- Nine of these 14 games were decided by eight points or less. Green Bay was 6-3 in these nine games.
- The five losses in season openers on the road happened in 2014 (Seattle), 2013 (San Francisco), 2005 (Detroit), 1985 (New England) and 1979 (Chicago).
- Twelve of the 14 season openers on the road occurred on a Sunday. The Packers won a season opener on Monday night over Carolina in 2004 and lost the 2014 season opener to the Seahawks in Seattle.
