2016 MLB playoffs: Head-to-Head stats

2016-post-season

With the Blue Jays and Giants winning the Wild Card games, the next round of the 2016 MLB playoffs is set and will begin tonight.

Here is a brief look at each of the four series and some head-to-head stats for each.
AMERICAN LEAGUE

Cleveland vs. Boston * Boston won the 2016 series against Cleveland, 4-2 * Boston was 2-1 at home; Cleveland was 1-2 at home * There were two one-run games of the six played between the two teams; each team won one. * The Red Sox scored five or more runs in four of the games, winning three of four; the Indians scored five or more runs in only one game, winning that contest. * There was only one blowout of the six games (a game decided by five runs or more); the Red Sox won that game.

Texas vs. Toronto * Toronto won the 2016 series against Texas, 4-3 * Toronto was 3-1 at home; Texas was 2-1 at home * There were four one-run games of the seven played between the two teams; Texas won three of those games, Toronto won one. * The Blue Jays scored five or more runs in four of the seven games, winning two and losing two; the Rangers scored five or more runs in two games, winning both. * There were two blowouts of the seven games (a game decided by five runs or more); the Blue Jays won both of those games.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Washington * Los Angeles won the 2016 series against Washington, 5-1 * Los Angeles was 3-0 at home; Washington was 1-2 * There were two one-run games of the six played between the two teams; Los Angeles won both contests. * The Dodgers scored five or more runs in two of the six games, winning both; the Nationals scored five or more runs in one game, winning that game. * There was only one blowout of the six games played between the two teams; the Nats won that game.

Chicago vs. San Francisco * Chicago won the 2016 series against San Francisco, 4-3 * Chicago was 3-1 at home; San Francisco was 2-1 * There were five one-run games of the seven played between the two teams; the Cubs won three, the Giants won two. * The Cubs scored five or more runs in two of the seven games, winning both; the Giants score five or more runs in only game, winning that contest. * There was only one blowout of the seven games played; the Cubs won that game.

Predictions: Based on the stats above, here are my unscientific guesses for the winners of these four series… Boston in four games, Texas in five games, the Dodgers in four games, the Cubs in four games.

  1. Jerry,

    1. We’ll see Bill. I’m usually not very good at predictions, especially if I depend on the stats I researched. I would like to see the Cubs finally win it. By the way, stay safe down there.

      1. Thanks Jerry. Fortunately we are on the west coast of Florida, so a bit of wind and rain for us.
This is one ugly huge storm though. Sure hope folks on the east coast followed the advice to evacuate!
