Three teams from the National League West (L.A. Dodgers, Arizona and Colorado) will take part in the 2017 MLB post-season. This will be the fourth time since 2012 (when baseball went to a playoff system that allowed two Wild Card teams to make the playoffs in each league) that three teams from one division made the playoffs. The three previous times were in 2013 (N.L. Central), 2015 (N.L. Central) and last season (A.L. East).
Of the three times when three teams from one division made the playoffs since 2012, only once did a team from that division appear in the World Series that season; that happened in 2013 when the Cardinals lost to the Boston Red Sox… none of the three teams from the N.L. Central in 2015 and none of the three teams from the A.L. East in 2016 reached the World Series.
