Racine’s Caron Butler (@realtuffjuice) announced his retirement from the NBA after 14 seasons. He averaged 14.1 points during his career with five rebounds per game and 2.3 assists per contest, playing 881 games. Here are several stats/numbers you may not know about Butler’s career.

  • Butler wore uniform #1, #2, #3, #4, #5 and… #31 in his NBA career.
  • The 10th pick in the 2002 draft, Butler’s 12,430 career points ranks 3rd among the players drafted in 2002. Amar’e Stoudemire and Carlos Boozer rank 1-2. Of the 2002 draft picks, Butler ranks 7th in career rebounds, fourth in career assists, third in free throw percentage, and his 28,333 career minutes played in the NBA ranks second behind Tayshaun Prince.
  • Butler played collegiately at UConn. His 12,430 points in the NBA ranks fifth among players from UConn. The four players ahead of Butler: Ray Allen, Cliff Robinson, Richard Hamilton and Rudy Gay.
  • Butler played with nine different NBA teams. The only team where Butler played for more than two seasons was with Washington where he played five seasons.
  • Caron played in 65 playoff games and scored two points in an NBA All-Star Game appearance.
  • He was a first team All-Rookie selection in 2002-03.
  • He was traded six times in his career and was part of a trade that sent Shaquille O’Neal to the Miami Heat from the Lakers.
  • In 2013, he was traded with current Bucks player Eric Bledsoe by the L.A. Clippers to the Phoenix Suns.
  • His first NBA game was October 30, 2002. He scored 16 points with seven rebounds and three assists. His last game was April 11, 2016; in that game he had seven points, two rebounds and one assist.
  • As a starter, Caron averaged 15.4 points per game in his career; as a reserve he averaged 7.6 points per game.
  • The most points he scored on his birthday was March 13, 2008 when he had 19 points.
  • Butler had four games where he scored 30 or more points at age 30 or older. He is one of 52 players in the league to score 38 or more points in a game at age 33 or older.
  • He is one of eight Milwaukee Bucks players to score 35 or more points at age 30 or older. At age 33 (and 254 days) on November 22, 2013, Butler scored 38 points for the Bucks. That is tied for sixth on the Bucks list of most points scored by a Bucks player at 30 or older.
  • Based on research from Pro Basketball Reference.com, Caron is one of 72 players who since 1963-64 played in 800 or more games with 12,000 career points, 4,000 career rebounds and 2,000 career assists.
  • He is one of 55 NBA players who was born in Wisconsin. His 12,430 career points ranks fifth on the list behind Latrell Sprewell, Terry Porter, Fred Brown and Nick Van Exel.
  • He is one of six NBA players born in Racine, WI. He is the career leader in points ahead of Jim Chones.
