Today’s Sports Stat: July 12, 2018

In the 50-year history of the Milwaukee Brewers, there have now been 60 players who have been selected to play in the All-Star Game Including this year’s four selections). Some had long careers with the Brewers (Molitor, Yount, Braun) while others spent only one season in Milwaukee (Dave Parker, Jim Sundberg). Another interesting category is those Milwaukee Brewers players who made the All-Star team in their first season with the club.

Christian Yelich is the latest Brew Crew member to be selected to play in the ASG in his first season with the team; in fact, Yelich becomes the 12th Milwaukee Brewers player to be selected in his first season with the team.

Here’s a look at the Brewers players who made the All-Star team in their first season with the team.

1969: Don Mincher and Mike Hegan (this was the first year as the expansion Seattle Mariners before the team moved to Milwaukee in 1970… for Mincher, it was his only year with the franchise)

1975: Hank Aaron (Aaron made several All-Star appearances as a member of the Milwaukee Braves, but this was his first and only ASG as a member of the Brewers)

1978: Larry Hisle (he made the All-Star team the previous year as a member of the Minnesota Twins)

1981: Rollie Fingers and Ted Simmons

1984: Jim Sundberg (this was his only year with the Brewers)

1990: Dave Parker (this was his only year with the Brewers)

2001: Ben Sheets (this was Sheets’ rookie campaign)

2005: Carlos Lee
