A history of the Packers-Bears matchup in the Week One and how Aaron Rodgers has fared in Week One games in his career

Tonight the Bears and Packers open the 2019 NFL season with a contest in Chicago. The two teams have faced off against each other numerous times in the first week. Here are a few stats celebrating that fact.

• The Bears and Packers have faced each other in the first week of the regular season 18 times since 1940. The Packers hold a 10-8 edge in those games. The Pack has won eight of the last 10 times the two teams have met on Week One.
• The Packers have won each of the last three times the two teams have met in Week One. They won last year 24-23, won 31-23 in 2015 and won 21-15 in 2009.
• Of the 18 times when they have squared off in the first game of the regular season, the final score margin was eight points or less in 10 of those games including nine of the last 13 times dating back to 1959.

Aaron Rodgers has made 11 season-opening starts as a Green Bay Packer. Here’s a quick look at some of his stats from those 11 season-opening starts.

• Green Bay has won eight of Rodgers 11 season-opening starts including winning the last three.
• Rodgers has completed 241 passes in 359 attempts, a .671 completion rate, in season-opening games. His career pass completion rate is 64.8%.
• He has averaged just under 243 yards passing in the first game of the year.
• He has 22 TD passes and only six interceptions in the first game of the year.
• Rodgers has had a 100 or higher Passer Rating in the season opener in five times; the Packers are 4-1 in those games. His lowest Passer Rating in the first game of the season was 73.1 against the Eagles in 2010.
• In his last four season-opening games, Rodgers has nine TD passes and only one interception. His Passer rating the last four openers has been 130.7, 86.5, 95.1 and 140.5.
• Rodgers has made three season-opening starts against the Bears. He is 3-0 in those games. He had seven TD passes and no interceptions in those three season-opening contests versus the Bears. His pass completion percentage in those three games was 67.9%.
