Packerstats 2020: Game 15, 40-14 win over the Tennessee Titans
Here are some of the numbers that helped define the Packers 40-14 win over the Tennessee Titans in Green Bay on Sunday, December 27, 2020.
- The Packers are now 12-3 for the 2020 season. This is the second straight year the team has won 12 or more regular season games… the first time they have accomplished this feat since 2001 and 2002 when they went 12-4 in consecutive years. It was Mike Sherman’s second and third seasons at the helm of the Pack. The team went 13-3 last season and could match that record from last year if they defeat the Chicago Bears in the season-finale. The last time the Packers won 13 or more games in back-to-back seasons was in 1996 and 1997 when they went 13-3 in back-to-back seasons under Mike Holmgren. They went to the Super Bowl in both of those seasons.
- Even though the Packers came away with a 40-14 win in this game versus the Titans, the Packers still have a losing record versus this franchise (6-7) going back to the days when they were the Houston Oilers. Green Bay is 3-4 against the Tennessee Titans since 1998; they were 3-3 versus the Oilers from 1972-92.
- Green Bay is now 15-6 in Game #15 of the season since 2000. That is the second best record in Game #15 contests since 2000. The New England Patriots top this category with an 18-2 record in the 15th games of the season this century.
- The Packers have now won five straight games against AFC opponents in December.
- Green Bay has now won 11 of their last 12 Sunday Night Football games at home dating back to 2009.
- The Packers scored first in the game on an Aaron Rodgers-to-Davante Adams pass play. Since the 2018 season, the Pack is 10-3 in games at Lambeau when they score first. Since 2015, they are 22-6-1 in games at Lambeau Field when they score first in the game.
- Davante Adams took over the NFL lead with his 16th TD reception of the season. The Packers have had three players lead the league in TD receptions since 1970: Sterling Sharpe (1992, 1994), James Jones (2012) and Jordy Nelson (2016).
- Adams became the 35th player in NFL history to have three or more TD receptions in two or more games in a single season. The record is four games in a season with three-plus TD receptions by Sonny Randle in 1960.
- Equanimeous St. Brown in the second quarter caught his first career TD pass. He became the 42nd player to catch a regular season TD pass from Aaron Rodgers.
- The Packers had two interceptions in the game, one each by Darnell Savage and Christian Kirksey. Green Bay since 2010 is 44-6 in games when they have two or more interceptions in a game.
- With his three TD receptions, Adams has now had 13 games in his Packers career with multiple TD receptions. The Packers are 12-1 in those games. The Packers record for most games with two or more TD receptions is 15 held by Jordy Nelson.
- Kirksey had a sack and interception in the game. It was the second game this season that a Packers player had a sack and interception in a game; Jaire Alexander had a sack and interception in Week #1 versus the Minnesota Vikings.
- Za’Darius Smith also had a sack. He had a sack in seven of the eight Green Bay home games this year. Of his 12.5 sacks this season, he had 9.5 sacks at home.
- The Pack held a 19-7 lead at halftime. The last time the Packers lost a home game where they had a 10-point (or more) lead at halftime was in 2007.They are 44-0-1 since that game.
- Rodgers had four TD passes in the game for the 29th time in his career. That ranks fourth on the all-time list. Drew Brees tops the list with 37 games with four or more TD passes. Green Bay is 26-3 in those games when Rodgers tosses four or more TD passes in a contest.
- For the ninth time in his career, Rodgers has surpassed 4,000 passing yards in a season. That’s the sixth most in NFL history. Peyton Manning had 14 seasons with 4,000 or more passing yards, most in NFL history.
- AJ Dillon had a pair of TD runs. At 22 years of age (and 239 days) he became the second-youngest Green Bay player to have two or more rushing TDs in a game. Paul Hornung was 21 years-308 days when he had two rushing TDs in a game on October 27, 1957.
- At 22 years-239 days, Dillon is the youngest Packers player to rush for 120 or more yards in a game.
- Rodgers did have an interception in the game, the fourth game of the season where he threw an interception. The Packers were 2-2 in those games.
- Rodgers’ interception was the only Packers turnover in the contest. If they can not turn the ball over in the final game versus the Bears, the Packers would tie the league record for most turnover-less games in a season with 11.
- Adams had 11 catches for 142 yards and three TDs. It was only the 36th time since the merger (1970) that a player had 10 + catches, 140+ receiving yards, and three or more TD receptions in a game. He became the third Packers receiver to reach these numbers in a game; Javon Walker did it on 9-26-2004, Sterling Sharpe did it on 10-24-93.
- Green Bay punter JK Scott did not have to punt in the game. It was the first time since October 7, 2018 (vs. Detroit) that the Packers did not punt in a game. In the Super Bowl era (since 1966), the Packers have played in only eight games where they did not have to punt.
- Green Bay scored in every quarter in the game. Since 2000, the team is 46-3 in games when they score in each quarter.
- Adams scored on receptions of 5, 7 and 8 yards. Of his 61 career regular season TDs, 29 of them have been less than 10 yards.
- Aaron Jones had 10 carries for 94 yards, an average of 9.4 yards per carry. Of all his games where he had at least 10 carries, this was the second-highest yards-per-carry game of his career. His highest was 9.67 in a game on 11-11-2018 against the Dolphins. He had 145 yards on 15 carries in that contest.
- Mason Crosby did have a field goal blocked, but a penalty on Tennessee wiped out that play. He is 16-for-16 in field goal attempts this season and if he doesn’t miss a field goal attempt in the final game next week, he will become only the sixth player in NFL history to not miss a field goal in a season (minimum of 15 attempts). Seattle’s Jason Myers has gone 22-for-22 this season and could join Crosby on this elite list.
- The Packers held the Panthers to only 16 points a week ago and then held the Titans to only 14 points this week. It was the first time since last year (also in Games #14 and #15) when they held the Bears to 13 points and the Vikings to 10 points in consecutive weeks. The team record for most consecutive games holding the opponents under 20 points (in the Super Bowl era-1966) is eight… that happened in 1968.
Packerstats 2020: Game 14, 24-16 win over the Carolina Panthers
Here are some of the numbers that helped define the Packers 24-16 win over the Carolina Panthers in Green Bay on Saturday, December 19, 2020.
- The Packers had a 21-3 lead at halftime. It was the seventh game this season where they scored 20 or more points in the first half, most of any team in the league in 2020. Houston, Baltimore, Kansas City, Miami and Tennessee have each scored 20 or more points in the first half in five games.
- This was the sixth game this season where the final outcome was eight or fewer points. The Packers are 4-2 in those one-score games.
- Aaron Rodgers had a TD pass to Robert Tonyan in the first quarter giving him 40 for the season. He became the first QB in NFL history to have 40 or more TD passes in three seasons (Drew Brees, Peyton Manning and Dan Marino each had 40+ TD passes in two seasons). Rodgers also becomes the second 37-year-old to have 40 or more TD passes in a season; Manning also did it in his 37-year-old season.
- The Pack has now won six of their last seven games played on Saturday.
- Green Bay has now won four of their last six games versus the Panthers. Ironically, they beat Carolina by the same score, 24-16, in 2019. Each of the last four games against the Panthers was decided by eight points or less.
- Green Bay has now won 11 of their last 12 home games against NFC South teams.
- Since 2010, the Packers are 67-18-2 in games at Lambeau Field, a .782 winning percentage. That’s the second-best home winning percentage of all NFL teams since 2010. The New England Patriots top the list with a 73-13 record at home (.849 winning percentage) since 2010.
- The Rodgers-to-Tonyan TD pass in the first quarter was Tonyan’s 10th TD reception this year. With Davante Adams’ 14 TD receptions this season, Tonyan and Adams become the first Packers teammates to have 10+ TD receptions in the same season since 2016 when Adams and Jordy Nelson each had 10+ TD receptions. It also happened in 2014 with Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb.
- The Pack scored first in the game and is now 29-11-1 (.720) since 2016 in games where they score first.
- Rodgers was sacked five times in the game, the 14th game since 2015 where a Packers QB was sacked five or more times in a contest. The team is 4-10 in those games.
- Rodgers had a rushing TD in back-to-back games for the first time since Games #1 and #2 in the 2016 season.
- The Packers did not have a turnover in the contest, the 10th game this season. That ties them for the second-most turnover-less games in an NFL season. The 2010 Patriots hold the record with 11 games without a turnover in the 2010 season. The Packers can tie the record with no turnovers in one of their two remaining games and break the record if they do not have any turnovers in each of their last two games this season.
- Aaron Jones had 20 carries for 145 yards in the game. The 145 yards tied for the third-most rushing yards in a regular season game for Jones. It was also the 11th 100-yard rushing game in his career. The Packers are 10-1 in those games.
- Jones also had a TD run in the game. Since the start of the 2019 season, Jones has 19 rushing TDs, tied with Christian McCaffrey for most in the league.
- Green Bay had a 21-10 lead going into the fourth quarter. Since 2010, they are 56-1-1 in games when they have a lead of 10 points or more going into the fourth quarter.
- The Packers had 195 yards rushing in the game, the second game this season where they had 195 or more yards rushing (they had 259 in Week #2 versus the Lions). The last time they had two games in a season where they had 195 or more yards rushing in a game was in 2013. In the Super Bowl era (since 1966) the Packers are 55-5-3 in games when they amass 195 or more rushing yards in a game.
- Rodgers had only 143 yards passing in the game. In all the games he has started at QB for the Packers, it was the eighth game of his career where he was under 150 yards passing. It was, however, the first of those eight games that the Packers won.
- Davante Adams has seven receptions for 42 yards, 6.0 yards per catch. That 6.0 yards per catch was the lowest in a game since a November 3, 2019 game against the L.A. Chargers. It was tied for the sixth lowest yards-per-catch in a game (games with at least one reception) for Adams of his 98 career regular season games.
- The Packers offense had 291 total yards in the game. Since 2015, they are 7-13 in games where they have less than 300 yards of total offense.
- Green Bay had 29:09 Time of Possession in the game, only the fourth game this season where they lost the T.O.P. stat to their opponents.
- Adrian Amos had a sack, seven combined tackles and three passes defended for the Packers defense in the game. It was the first time since 2009 that a Packers defensive player reach these numbers in a game (Charles Woodson had a sack, seven combined tackles and four passes defended in a 11-26-2009 game against the Lions).
- Za’Darius Smith had sack in the game. He is the first Packers defensive player to have 10 or more sacks for the team in back-to-back seasons since Clay Matthews did it in 2009 and 2010.
- The Packers held the Panthers to 16 points. They have now won 14 straight games when they hold the opposition under 20 points in a game. Since 2010, Green Bay is 55-9 (.859) in games where they hold opponents under 20 points in a game.
Packerstats 2020, Game 13, 31-24 win over the Detroit Lions
Written and Compiled by Jerry Tapp
Here are some of the numbers that helped define the Packers 31-24 win over the Detroit Lions in Detroit on Sunday, December 13, 2020.
- The Packers started the final ¼ of the season with a win over the Lions. From 2010-19, the Packers were 27-13 in Games #13, #14, #15 and #16. That was tied for the second-best record (and the best record of NFC teams) in the final four games of the season in the last 10 years. Topping the list were the New England Patriots with a 30-10 record. The Pack was tied at 27-13 with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- The Packers have now won four straight against the Lions. They have also won four of the last six games on the road against the Lions.
- The Packers are 13-6 in divisional games played in December since 2010.
- Green Bay has now won seven of their last 10 road games played in December.
- Usually if the Packers don’t score first in a road game, it doesn’t bode well for a victorious outcome. Since the 2015 season, the Packers are 8-16 in road games when their opponents score first in the contest; the Lions scored first in yesterday’s battle.
- Davante Adams had a receiving TD for the eighth straight game. It is the longest streak since Antonio Brown caught a TD pass in eight straight games in 2018. If Adams can catch a TD pass in his ninth straight game next week against the Panthers, he would become the ninth player in NFL history to do so. The NFL record is 13 straight games with a TD reception by Jerry Rice.
- Marquez Valdes-Scantling had a TD reception in the second quarter. The Pack is 6-2 in games when MVS has a TD reception.
- The Packers had four sacks in the game, one each by Dean Lowry, Rashan Gary, Darnell Savage and Kenny Clark. The team has had at least one sack in 12 of their 13 games this season. They are 9-0 in games this season when they have two or more sacks in a game. When they have zero or only one sack in the game, the team is 1-3 this season.
- For the fourth game this season, the Packers’ offensive line did not allow a sack. The team is 4-0 in these games. The last time they had four games in a season where they did not allow a sack was back in 2008.
- With three games remaining in the season, Aaron Rodgers has 39 TD passes and only four interceptions. There has been only three times in NFL history that a QB has had 40 or more TD passes in a season with less than 10 interceptions. Tom Brady first did it in 2007 with 50 TD passes and eight picks. Rodgers has already done it twice; he had 45 TD passes and six interceptions in 2011 and 40 TD passes and seven interceptions in 2016.
- The game was tied at halftime, 14-14. Prior to yesterday’s game, the Packers were 3-10 in their last 13 games when they were tied at halftime on the road.
- Rodgers scored on a seven-yard TD run in the third quarter. It was the 30th rushing TD of his career. The Packers are 17-11 in games when Rodgers scores a rushing TD.
- Rodgers accounted for four TDs in the contest (3 TD passes and one rushing TD). Green Bay is 16-2 in games when Rodgers accounts for four or more scores in a contest.
- Tight End Robert Tonyan caught his ninth TD of the season. He became the fourth Packers tight end to have nine or more TD receptions in a season. Paul Coffman tops the list with 11 TD catches (1983) followed by Keith Jackson with 10 in 1996. Coffman (1984) and Bubba Franks (2001) each had nine TD receptions for the Packers as a tight end.
- Rodgers had a Passer Rating of 133.6 in yesterday’s game. It was the 12th game this season that he had a Passer Rating over 100. The record for most games with a Passer Rating over 100 is 13, jointly held by Patrick Mahomes (2018) and Rodgers (2011).
- Green Bay had 12 penalties in the game, most in a single game since October 7, 2018. They are 10-7 since 2010 in games when they have 10 or more penalties in a contest.
- Davante Adams had seven catches for 115 yards, the 22nd 100-yard game of his career. He is now tied with Donald Driiver for fifth on the team’s all-time list and will tie Greg Jennings with 23 100-yard games with his next 100-yard game. James Lofton tops the list with 32 games with 100 yards receiving as a Packer player.
- Mason Crosby connected on a 58-yard field goal in the game and is now a perfect 15-for-15 in field goals this season. Five kickers in NFL history have gone the whole season and not missed a field goal attempt (minimum of 15 field goals attempted). Indianapolis’ Mike Vanderjagt holds the record in this category; he went 37-for-37 in field goal attempts in 2003. Minnesota’s Gary Anderson went 35-for-35 in 1998.
- The Packers are now 10-3 this season. It’s the first time they had back-to-back double-digit win seasons (they won 13 games last year) since 2015 and 2016. Head Coach Matt LaFleur becomes the fifth Packers coach to have back-to-back double-digit win seasons. The others were: Mike McCarthy, Mike Sherman, Mike Holmgren and Vince Lombardi.
- Green Bay has now swept their two games against the Lions in a season in consecutive years.
- The Lions had only 51 yards rushing in the game. The Packers have now won seven straight games when they hold the opposition to less than 60 yards rushing in a game.
- The Packers tied a team record with their ninth game this season where they did not have a turnover. That ties the team record set by last year’s squad. They can break the team record by having no turnovers in one of their final three games. The 2010 New England Patriots hold the NFL record with 11 games that season where they did not have a turnover. They also have the second-best record in this category with 10 games with no turnovers in the 2016 campaign.
- The Pack scored 31 points and had 410 total yards in the game. They have now won 19 straight games when they score 30 or more points with 400+ offensive yards in a game. Since 2010, Green Bay is 30-1 in games where they tally 30+ points and 400+ total yards in the same game.
- The Packers won the Time of Possession game with 35:30 to the Lions 24:30. The Pack has now won 20 of their last 22 games when they have 35:00 or more T.O.P. in a game.
- Here’s the odd stat of the day: Za’Darius Smith did not have a tackle or a sack in the game. Smith has had 29 combined tackles in six home games with 7.5 sacks. In seven away games, he has 16 combined tackles and three sacks.
Packerstats 2020: Game 12, 30-16 win over the Philadelphia Eagles
Written and Compiled by Jerry Tapp
Here are some of the numbers that helped define the Packers 30-16 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Green Bay on Sunday, December 6, 2020.
- Another week, another set of milestones reached… Aaron Rodgers had three TD passes, making him the first QB in NFL history to have five seasons with 35+ TD passes. He broke the four-way tie held with Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Peyton Manning. Brees holds the record for most 30+ TD pass seasons with 10. He is followed by Brett Favre and Peyton Manning (9 each), and Brady and Rodgers with seven each. Rodgers also tallied his 400th TD pass in his career. He became the seventh player to reach this mark, and did it in the fewest games (193). The others on the list: Brady, Brees, Manning, Favre, Dan Marino and Philip Rivers. Rodgers now has 400 career TD passes yet has less than 100 career interceptions (88). Brady is the only member of this 400-TD Pass Club to have less than 200 career interceptions (190).
- While Rodgers now ranks seventh all-time in career TD passes, he is tied for 134th on the all-time list for his 88 career interceptions.
- The Packers are now 17-4-1 in home games since 2018.
- Green Bay is now 32-13 in December games since 2010. They are 19-4 in home games in December since 2010.
- The Packers have now won six of their last eight games against the Eagles.
- Green Bay is 32-16 since 1970 (the merger) against NFC East opponents at Lambeau Field.
- The Pack has now won 11 of their last 12 games at Lambeau Field when they win the coin toss.
- The Packers defense had seven sacks in the contest, their first seven-sack game since Week #4 in the 2018 season. The Packers are 30-1 all-time when they have seven or more sacks in a game; their only loss came in a game in 1951.
- The Packers were held scoreless in the first quarter. Since 2000, Green Bay is now 25-19 in games at Lambeau when they do not score in the first quarter.
- Davante Adams caught a TD pass for the seventh straight game. It is the longest active streak in the NFL. Catching a TD pass in eight straight games has happened only 15 times in NFL history. Jerry Rice did it twice; plus he holds the record for the longest streak… 13 games.
- Robert Tonyan had a TD reception, the third straight game with a TD reception for him.
- Kingsley Keke had a pair of sacks in the game, the second game this season he had two or more sacks. The last player to have multiple games with two or more sacks for the Packers in a single season was last season when ZaDarius Smith had four multi-sack games and Preston Smith had two such games.
- The Packers had a 14-3 lead at halftime. Green Bay is 20-1-1 (since 2015) when they have a lead of 10 or more points at halftime.
- Adams had two TDs in the game, the fourth game this year where he had two or more TDs. The team record for most games in a season with two or more TDs is seven held by Ahman Green in 2003. Only four Packers players have scored multiple TDs in five or more games in a season: Green did it twice, Aaron Jones (last season), Paul Hornung and Jim Taylor.
- Adams ended the game with 10 receptions for 121 yards. It was his ninth career game where he had 10 or more receptions and 100+ receiving yards. The NFL record is 21 held by Andre Johnson. Adams’ nine games places him tied for 24th on this all-time list.
- For the second game this season, the Packers punt return team allowed the opponents to return a punt for TD. It is the first time since 1964 that the Packers have allowed two or more punt returns for TD in a season. In 1949, the Packers allowed three punt returns for TD.
- Aaron Jones had 15 carries for 130 yards, his first 100-yard rushing game since Week #2 against the Lions.
- Jones has now had 10 or more rushing attempts in 17 straight games. It is tied for the 12th longest streak in team history. Ahman Green had a 66-game streak where he had 10 or more rushing attempts for the Pack, a team record.
- Darnell Savage intercepted a pass for the second straight game. He is the first Packer to have interceptions in back-to-back games since 2018 when Ha Ha Clinton-Dix had interceptions in three straight games in Games #2-#4 that season. The Packers have now won 21 of their last 22 games when they intercept a pass.
- Rodgers had three TD passes and no interceptions, the eighth game this season he had three or more TD passes and no picks. That ties his NFL record that he holds jointly with Tom Brady. Brady had eight games with 3+ TD passes and no interceptions in 2007; Rodgers first accomplished this in 2014. Rodgers is third on the all-time list with 54 games with three or more TD passes and no interceptions. He is one behind Drew Brees. Brady tops the list with 61 such games.
- The Packers scored 14 points in the second quarter. It was the 10th game (out of 12) this season where they tallied 10 or more points in the second quarter. To give some perspective, they have scored 10+ points only once in the first quarter this season; scored 10+ points in the third quarter four times; and tallied 10+ points in the fourth quarter in three games this season. They were held scoreless in the second quarter only once this year… the 38-10 loss to Tampa Bay.
- Green Bay has now won 22 of their last 23 games when they scored 30 or more points. Since 2015, the team is 27-2 when they put 30 or more points on the scoreboard.
- The Pack has won 12 straight when they hold the opposition under 17 points in a game. Since 2015, the team is 24-1 when they allow less than 17 points in a game.
- Rashan Gary tied a career high with 1.5 sacks. Green Bay is 5-0 in games when Gary has a sack.
