One of the biggest surprises for the Milwaukee Bucks this year has been the play of Brook Lopez. The seven-footer has become a legitimate scoring threat for the team, but the fact that he has become a weapon as a three-point shooter is probably a surprise to many.
Through the first 19 games of the season, Lopez is second on the team with 130 three-point attempts (Khris Middleton leads the team) and he is second on the Bucks with 49 made treys (behind Middleton’s 58). He is shooting the three-pointer at a very respectable 37.7 percent.
With all that being said, it probably also came as a surprise that Lopez set an NBA record on November 23… unfortunately for futility beyond the three-point stripe.
In that game against the Phoenix Suns, Lopez took 12 three-point shots and missed them all. That established a new NBA record for most three-point attempts without a made shot. The previous record was held by three players who each went 0-for-11. For the record, Lopez was 1-for-2 from the free throw line and did make three of five two-point shots in the contest.
Here is a look at the players who took 10 or more three-point shots in a regular season game and did not make any of them. (Lopez became the 13th player in history to go 0-for-10, 0-for-11 or 0-for-12 in a game; three players did it in multiple games… James Harden in three games and Stephen Curry and Antoine Walker in two games apiece.)
12: Brook Lopez
11: Trey Burke, Stephen Curry, Antoine Walker
10: Ray Allen, Raja Bell, Stephen Curry, Baron Davis, Kevin Durant, Paul George, James Harden (three times), Kyle Korver, George McCloud, Antoine Walker, Kemba Walker
With 130 three-point attempts through the first 19 games of the season, Lopez is on a pace to end the season with 561 three-point attempts this season. The most threes attempted by a seven-footer in a season was set last year when Lauri Markkanen attempted 401. Lopez is fourth on this list of most threes attempted by a seven-footer in a season… last season he attempted 387.
